Understanding Bloom on Beeswax Candles

Understanding Bloom on Beeswax Candles

If you've noticed a soft, whitish film forming on your beeswax candle, don't worry—this is completely natural. That film is known as bloom, a harmless and even desirable characteristic unique to pure beeswax.

What is Bloom?
Bloom is a natural occurrence that happens when the esters in beeswax slowly rise to the surface and crystallize over time. It appears as a light frost or haze and is a sign that your candle is made from 100% pure beeswax. Unlike dust or residue, bloom is not caused by environmental conditions or poor storage—it's an organic process tied directly to the wax’s composition.

Is Bloom a Problem?
Not at all. In fact, many people appreciate bloom as a mark of authenticity and purity. It doesn’t affect how the candle burns, and some even find its soft appearance adds to the rustic charm of beeswax products.

Can Bloom Be Removed?
Yes! If you prefer a shinier look, simply buff the candle gently with a soft cloth or warm it slightly with your hands or a hair dryer on low. This will temporarily melt the bloom back into the wax, restoring a glossy finish.

How to Slow Down Bloom Formation
While you can’t completely prevent bloom on natural beeswax, storing candles in a cooler, dark place and away from drafts may slow the process. Still, bloom is more a feature than a flaw—an elegant reminder that you're enjoying a product made by nature.
